A Baker’s Dozen of Blues: July 21, 2014

IMG_6034_9458_edited-1It was a sad week once we learned of the death of a true superstar in the blues field, Johnny Winter. There is much to say and not enough time to say it – so suffice it to say that we send condolences to his brother Edgar, his manager and friend Paul Nelson, his family, and all of his fans from over the many years he has graced us with his unique and heartfelt blues playing.

With that in mind we made a decision to pay tribute to Johnny and the music he loved so dearly by saluting him in his various forms of blues. As a solo performer, as part of him and Edgar, his work with blues legends such as Muddy Waters, James Cotton, Willie Dixon and others. Our Amuse Bouche will feature some not so common tracks from his long and hallowed history in the blues, we hope you will enjoy these specially selected tracks and remember him fondly with a smile on your face looking up to heaven. Bless ya brother, play on.

A Baker’s Dozen Of Blues

Our new #1 this week is Back Pack Jones, a pretty amazing feat considering we had never heard of them but their music won us over and we hope it has made an impression on you. Another milestone for Jarekus Singleton he has returned to the Baker’s Dozen chart. Just three weeks after reaching the #1 spot (and holding to it for 2 weeks) he has reappeared on our chart. Never before has this happened. Thanks to all the fans and supporters who contacted us and had his back. He is at #5 this week.

We have two new main course entrees this week – Rip Lee Pryor, son of legendary bluesman Snooky Pryor, and a new band out of NY State Pork Chop Willie, who feature the music of Mississippi Hill Country filtered through the grit and hard edged realities of NYC. We will see Rip this coming weekend, along with Jarekus (and many other fine artists) at the Pennsylvania Blues Fest, hope to see many of you there too. Be sure to come by and say hi!
