A Baker’s Dozen of Blues: August 1, 2016

Markey Blue sits atop our chart this week. Their new release “The Blues Are Knockin’ “ is a solid effort and deserves to be #1 and to be listened to by all of you.

We will be airing an interview we did with them the week of August 22, and you can learn about their path to the blues, their choices of music and what they got going on. This will be aired on our Music City Blues Kitchen program which is currently featuring some of the guys from Idlewild South.

IMG_7767Our Amuse Bouche features the very first blues festival we ever attended – The Chenango Blues Festival. It was at this festival that I first saw Janiva Magness, Geoff Atchinson and many more amazing artists.

I remember that Leslie had a business dinner party but I had to stay to get Janiva’s autograph and to speak with her cause I was blown away by her voice and talent. It was love at first hear! HAH, needless to say that we were late for the party, oh well.

Chenango was one of last years KBA recipients, they are in their 24th year, so they have stood the test of time. Congratulation Eric & Pam Larsen and the whole clan in Norwich NY for doing the good work out there. It is AUGUST 19-20th in Norwich, NY.

Next year we will be back to visit our good friends and see some amazing blues.

August 2016 Shaun Murphy finalThis week begins Shaun Murphy’s month long stint as Guest Curator for Blues411, be sure to catch her music choices, insights and personal asides about music and life. Check schedule on graphic or at Blues411.
I also hope that you all have had the opportunity to read our CD review and opinion piece on Shaun’s latest release and lurking ageism in the Blues world.
